As many of you are no doubt aware by now, the last week or so has seen my government’s attention dominated by the Pretender Crisis. The crisis started in the early morning hours of February the 15th when King Aaron of Eniarku declared, through his Council of State, an intention to claim the North American throne for himself. What followed was a swift deterioration of relations between the Confederation and Eniarku, with discussion regarding the negation of the Treaty of Mutual Recognition even being suggested by my cabinet. Thankfully as of the 20th, private communications conducted between my office and the King of Eniarku have resulted in King Aaron dropping his claim to the Imperial throne and the dismissal of his Council, officially ending the crisis.
It was revealed by King Aaron that the Crisis was a started by efforts in the Eniarkian government to legally expand their nation's influence and control. It was suggested by several members that the King use Emperor William’s abdication statement that was issued during the King’s ministry when he was an North American citizen to declare himself the true Emperor. When the Eniarkian king voiced his disapproval, the Council used a constitutional rule to force his hand or risk forced removal from the throne. With King Aaron as the North American Emperor, it was the hope of his government that the Confederation might be absorbed into their kingdom.
Naturally, this action was regarded poorly not only by my government, but by numerous micronational governments across the American continent, including Esse, Shorewell, Karnia-Ruthenia, and Delvera. This, coupled with an ultimatum by my government to find Eniarku in violation of the Treaty of Mutual Recognition if they did not relinquish their claim, pressured King Aaron to dismiss his Council and issue a proclamation rescinding his claim to the throne.
Upon his announcement, I immediately expressed my gratitude to the King on behalf of myself and the Emperor and reinitiated diplomatic efforts. As a sign of good faith, the Kingdom of Eniarku and the North American Confederation shall collaborate on creating a non-biased wiki page detailing and outlining the events surrounding the Pretender Crisis. It is our hope that this incident will be a catalyst for stronger relations with our neighbors and a critical lesson on the importance of diplomacy and written law.
