In early 2009, William von Hartmann-Peters, a student from Ohio, United States, and friends founded a group who, united by common origins and principles, created one of the most famous North American micronations of the 21st century, a trully aspirant state. Founded as New Europe and transformed into the North American Confederation in 2015, this very rich micronational legacy, which unites politics, diplomacy, economics, citizenship and fraternity today is led by the Occidian Empire.
